8 November to 11 November - Mallacoota Kayaking and Walking Weekend

Base Camp

Walk Coordinators: Diane Moon, Eric Moon, Lyn Evans and Phil Kendall

Meet: TBA at TBA

Grade: Easy/Moderate

Description: Grade: Easy to moderate walks, easy 1/2 day paddles but wind dependent. Easy walk is around 10 km, moderate walk 2 km. Paddles around 8 km each.

We have 3 nights accommodation booked at Karbeethong Lodge and have planned both kayaking and walking activities for the weekend as well as the usual evening frivolities.

There will be three kayak trips, varying in duration from between 3 to 4 hours - depending on the weather. While it’s great to do the whole distance and share morning tea and lunch stops together, people can choose to turn around at any point to reduce the distance of

paddling. Kayaks are available for hire if you do not have one. If you are not planning to do all 3 kayak trips, there are many other things to do such as enjoying easy coastal and lake walking trails or you could bring or hire a bike and explore the many trails around

Mallacoota or go fishing, or just relax at one of the local cafes.

Apart from the kayaking we are planning a lovely loop walk of about 4 hours duration which is rated easy. On the way home we have planned to walk up Genoa peak. While this walk is only 2km return, the last 100m to the top is a fairly steep climb. Three steel ladders

take you to the summit where there are magnificent views of Mallacoota Inlet, the ocean and surrounding country.

Karbeethong Lodge accommodation has already been fully booked. We would still encourage you to join us but you would need to find alternative accommodation at one of the caravan parks or one of the many accommodation places in Mallacoota. If there are

cancellations we will inform you via the BVBW email.
